It's a celebration you don't want to miss with something different and awesome for you to enjoy - games, facepainting, egg hunts, music, mazes, snacks, gifts - and it's all free! Plus you'll see the new family classic Rez - The Rock that Rolled Away from the internationally acclaimed and award winning God Rocks (R) children's television series.

Our Family Easterrific Event will take place on Thursday, April 1st from 6:30-8:30 at our Church (165 Liberton Drive). Bring your friends and family. This year, don`t just settle for a bunny - plan to make your Easter weekend truly Easterrific!

Adult Fellowship Event - March 7th

Our Annual Adult Fellowship Curling Event will take place on Sunday, March 7th at 2:00 p.m. There will be a dinner to follow the events, starting at 4:30 p.m. The cost is $15.00 per person (Curling and Dinner) or $8.00 per person if you're not interested in curling, but would just like to take in the dinner portion of the evening. Please let us know if you'll be attending by either calling our church office at 780 458-1937 or by placing your name on the sign up sheet located in the church foyer.

Reminder to the Men -- The Men's Event for February Month is virtual golfing at The Sandtrap - located at 2500 Tudor Glen. This takes place on Saturday, February 20th. We will start golfing at 8:00 a.m., followed by breakfast at 10:00 a.m. If you're not a golfer but would just like to come along for breakfast, that's fine too. Bible Study will be recommencing on February 2nd at 7:00 p.m. This rotation of Bible Study will be focusing on personal every day evangelism as we journey with famous author Max Lucado in his study "Next Door Saviour".

In this study you will come face to face with both the holy and human sides of Jesus. Through unforgettable stories and powerful truths, you will be drawn closer to a Savior who is as approachable as a

next-door neighbor, yet holy enough to save humanity.

Food for Thought as we Commence 2010

This was supposed to be posted yesterday afternoon (Sunday), but due to some technical difficulties with the blogspot we were unable to log on. So...without further a due, here are the 7 UPS to start the New Year that Captain Gaye shared in her sermon yesterday morning...enjoy!

1. Wake-up! Begin the day with the Lord. It is HIS day. Rejoice and be glad in it.

2. Dress-up! Put on a smile. It improves your looks. It says something about your attitude.

3. Shut-up! This isn't meant in the rude way the term is often used. Rather, it asks us to watch our tongue. Don't gossip. Say nice things. Learn to listen.

4. Stand up! Take a stand for what you believe. Resist evil. Do good.

5. Look-up! Open your eyes to the Lord. After all, he is your only Saviour.

6. Reach up! Spend time in prayer with your adorations, confessions, thanksgivings and supplications to the Lord.

7. Lift up! Be available to help those in need serving, supporting and sharing.

It's that time of the year again...Christmas Kettles have begun. We had a very successful Kettle Kick-off at the St. Albert Steels hockey game...506 people were in attendance and some great support was shown for The Salvation Army, yet again, in the City of St. Albert. We have kettles throughout St. Albert and Spruce Grove and we're sure we can find a time to suit your schedule. The Youth Have Spoken! Starting @ 6:00 p.m.

James Pedlar, a young Salvationist pursuing a doctorate in systematic theology at the University of Toronto, was tasked by The Salvation Army to oversee a project examining the significant decline in church membership and Sunday attendance. James will be sharing in our Sunday morning worship service Sunday, October 18th and giving a presentation based upon his findings Sunday night, October 18th.

Kid Connection -- When it Fits, it Connects!!!

Calling all Kid's between the ages of 4-12!!! Kid Connection is a new program that we're offering at The St. Albert Church and Community Centre that allows kid's to connect with each other, with God, and with their community!!

Kid Connection will begin on Thursday, September 24th at 6:30 p.m. The fee for the whole year is just $50.00, and this includes an action packed, Bible based, hands-on, fun filled evening for your child(ren), and of course, snack included.

SonRock Kid's Camp Starts on Monday, July 13th

We're SUPER excited here at The Salvation Army...SonRock Kid's Camp is starting and we know that an AMAZING adventure awaits. There are only a few spaces left to register in the first week, and the remaining 4 weeks are filling up fast...so be sure to call Graeme and get your kids registered today.

Our camp runs from July 13-August 14 from 12:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. daily. The cost is only $40.00 per child/per week. Subsidies are available for those who qualify.

Today was the farewell for Major Ken Percy and we were all given the opportunity to say our "see you laters" to a great friend of the St. Albert Corps. As we all know, with the Salvation Army, it's quite easy for our paths to cross again, and we sure hope this is the case.

Ken has been appointed to the Public Relations Department for the Kitchener/Waterloo region in Ontario. He will be missed, but we know that God has great plans in store for his life.

We wish you all the best and thank you for enriching our Corps Family with your presence.

Rainmaker Rodeo Parade 2009

We had an amazing day at the Rainmaker Rodeo Parade!!! As you can see from the pictures, it was a gorgeous day...no rain...yay!!!! Actually, it was a gorgeous, sunny, 21 degree day!!!

The theme for our float was "Sonrock Kid's Camp", which is our Summer Program for 2009. If you want to register your child, please call our office at 780 458-1937. Call soon before all of our vacancies are filled!

We want to give a "shout out" to all those who helped decorate our float, especially Sheila Rennie, who designed our AMAZING float. Also we want to thank all those who participated, gave of their time and resources to make our day an amazing one!!! We love being a part of the parade...any chance to be with the public is a valued one.

Rainmaker Rodeo Weekend ~ May 23rd, 2009

Remember...this weekend is Rainmaker Rodeo in St. Albert. Be sure to keep an eye out for our float in the parade on Saturday, May 23rd. Watch the colour and excitement of the Rainmaker Rodeo & Exhibition parade at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, which features well over 100 entries. The parade starts on Liberton Drive and winds down St. Vital Avenue through to downtown St. Albert on Perron Street, in front of City Hall and then along Sir Winston Churchill Avenue ending at Lion's Park.

Come out and see the sights and sounds of the parade with the wonderful floats, antique autos, team & company mascots, talented marching bands, as well as enthusiastic men, women & children (even animals) from various and numerous organizations promoting and/or demonstrating their enthusiasm for their group, sport or cause. Look forward to seeing you there!!

Well, it's just around the corner...the day when we get to honor our Mother's for all of the sacrificial work they do for us on a daily basis. It doesn't matter if you're 8 or 68, if you're fortunate to have your Mom still with you, you know that their job is never-ending...no matter how old you may feel as her child. We all know that for her, being a Mom has little do with biology and everything to do with that unwaverable love and devotion towards her child.

Looking for 1 Coordinator for 14 weeks at 40 hrs/wk starting May 11, 2009 and 5 Counselors for 6 weeks at 35 hrs/wk starting July 6, 2009. Must be at least 15 years and attending High School or Post Secondary schooling in Fall 2009.

Change is in the Air!!!

If you've been a part of The Salvation Army for any length of time at all, you know that change is inevitable. And of course, from time to time we have a change in our leadership.

Today, we received announcements that there will be a change in our Divisional Leadership. Majors Eric and Donna Bond, who have served wonderfully as our Divisional Commander and Divisional Director of Women's Ministries, are being transferred to the College for Officer Training in Winnipeg, Manitoba, with Major Eric as the Principal of CFOT and Major Donna responsible for the Spiritual Formation of the Cadets.

We are also pleased to announce that Majors Fred and Wendy Waters, who are no strangers to St. Albert, will now be our Divisional Leaders, with Major Fred taking on the responsibility of Divisional Commander and Major Wendy becoming the Divisional Director of Women's Ministries.

Although we are sad to see the Bond's leave, we are very happy to have Majors Waters leading our division, effective July 3rd.

Please find below all of the appointments that were released today (the Bonds and Waters will be included in this list) :

Major Frederick Waters, Area Commander - Prairie & Northern Territories Division, is appointed as Divisional Commander, Alberta & Northern Territories Division, effective July 3, 2009. As a result of restructuring, this division will return to being a stand alone Division with DHQ remaining in Edmonton.

Major Wendy Waters , Area Commander, Prairie & Northern Territories Division, is appointed as Divisional Director of Women's Ministries, Alberta & Northern Territories Division, effective July 3, 2009.

Major Eric Bond , Divisional Commander, Prairie & Northern Territories Division, is appointed as Principal, College for Officer Training, Winnipeg, effective July 3, 2009.

Major Donna Bond , Divisional Director of Women's Ministries/Divisional Community Care Ministries Secretary, Prairie & Northern Territories Division, is appointed as Director of Spiritual Formation, College for Officer Training, Winnipeg, effective July 3, 2009.

Major Sandra Rice , Principal, College for Officer Training, is appointed as Territorial Secretary for Personnel, effective July 3, 2009. This is a senior reserved appointment, and therefore Major Rice will be promoted to the rank of Lieut.-Colonel upon assuming this appointment.

Major Susan van Duinen , Divisional Commander and Divisional Director of Women's Ministries, Manitoba and Northwest Ontario Division, is appointed as Divisional Commander & Divisional Director of Women's Ministries, British Columbia Division, effective July 3, 2009.

Major Junior Hynes , Divisional Commander, Newfoundland and Labrador West, is appointed as Divisional Commander, Prairie Division, effective July 3, 2009. This division will be created by amalgamating the former Manitoba & NW Ontario Division with the Province of Saskatchewan.

Major Verna Hynes, Divisional Director of Women's Ministries, Divisional Director for Personnel (Officers), Divisional Retired Officers' Coordinator, Newfoundland and Labrador West, is appointed as Divisional Director of Women's Ministries, Prairie Division, effective July 3, 2009.

Lieut.-Colonel Alfred Richardson , Divisional Commander, Ontario Great Lakes Division, is appointed as Divisional Commander, Newfoundland and Labrador Division, effective July 3, 2009. As a result of restructuring, Newfoundland & Labrador West and Newfoundland & Labrador East will merge to become Newfoundland & Labrador Division with DHQ located in St. John's. This appointment is for a two year term. Lieut.-Colonels Richardson's active service has been extended to July 2011.

Lieut-Colonel Ethel Richardson, Divisional Director of Women's Ministries, Divisional Director for Personnel (Officers), Ontario Great Lakes Division, is appointed as Divisional Director of Women's Ministries, Newfoundland and Labrador Division, effective July 3, 2009.

Major Lee Graves , Area Commander for Ontario East Area, Ontario Central-East Division, is appointed as Divisional Commander, Ontario Great Lakes Division, effective July 3, 2009. This is a senior reserved appointment and therefore Major Graves will be promoted to the rank of Lieut.-Colonel upon assuming this appointment.

On February 25th, although it's 11 days after Valentine's Day, we'll be having a "love themed" Ladies Night Out. This starts at 7:00 p.m. We ask, if at all possible, that each lady wear something RED or PINK!!! Come along for a fun time of Fellowship and Spiritual enrichment...let's share the love!!!!

March 2009 ~ Women's Dessert Evening with William P. Young
On Thursday evening, March 12th, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. we will be sharing as a personal audience with the author of "The Shack", William P. Young, and also sharing in some yummy desserts. It's a time for women and their friends. Whether your friends are just curious or really searching, this is a great opportunity to extend an invitation to hear the heart and story behind "The Shack". Please sign up on the sign up sheet in the foyer if you are interested in attending. Tickets are $20.00 each. It takes place at Festival Place, Sherwood Park...transportation will be provided from the church, to the event, if required.

Another Great Weekend at St. Albert Corps!!!

We had another great weekend at The Salvation Army St. Albert! On Saturday, our Men's Group went golfing...yes, golfing...in January... in Alberta!!! Aren't our Men SOOOO brave to face the cold winter weather for the love of golf? Not really...but we still think they're SUPER brave!! They golfed at the Virtual Golfing Facility called "The Sandtrap". There were 15 men in attendance, and as you can see from the pictures above, they received "virtual" awards for their virtual golfing...with our own Cam Rennie (C.S.M.) as the presenter. The golfers missing from the pictures above are Bill Isley, Darrin Isley, Mark Godefroy, Ken Percy, and Dave.

We had a great day of worship and fellowship together...God is so amazing!!! Pictured below are some pictures of our fellowship/coffee time following our service. All are welcome to attend our service each Sunday at 11:00 a.m.

What is H2O? It's a journey of faith!

In our world of moral relativism, secular humanism and religious pluralism, where expressions of the Christian Faith are becoming increasingly unacceptable and even illegal, the average Christian wanting to share his or her faith becomes confused and unsure of where to turn to effectively share what God has asked them to share. H2O Bible Study is a resource that will enable believers to share their faith with confidence and unprecedented effectiveness. H2O takes the viewer on a powerful, engaging journey that is a carefully crafted progression designed to bring non-believers to a willingness to accept Christ.

We'd love for YOU to come along and share this journey with us. We'll be meeting each Tuesday evening, beginning February 3rd at 6:30 p.m. We'll begin with a DELICIOUS dinner, and then go into our time of Study together. The Men's Event for January 24th is bound to alleviate any golf cravings that you gentlemen may be experiencing over these winter months!!!! We'll be heading to "The Sandtrap", a virtual golfing experience. It will take place at 12:00 p.m., and following our time of great fellowship and golfing, we'll share together in a meal at the on site restaurant. There is limited space for the golfing portion of our day together, so please contact Jason @ 780 458-1937 OR Jason_King@can.salvationarmy.org. If you wish not to take part in the golfing portion, and would just like to join for the meal, then you have the option of only signing up for the meal part of the event. The cost is $17.50 for golfing, plus the cost of your meal, which depends on what you choose to order.

St. Albert Christmas Kettle Kickoff

Our Annual Christmas Kettle Kick-off took on November 21st at the St. Albert Steels Hockey Game. Many members from our Corps came along for support, as well as Majors Fred and Wendy Waters, Major Ken Percy, and we were pleased to have the presence of our mascot "Sallyann"...and although she may look a little more plump than last year, her enthusiasm was as magical as ever!! Below (L-R) are some pictures...The first is of Sallyann with Jennifer Lutz and the Kwak Family...they love Sallyann as if she were their own. Secondly, Captain Jason with Mayor Nolan Crouse...and in the final picture is Kianna King with Captain Gaye and Major Wendy. A great night was had by all!!!!

Our grand total, as of Monday, December 1st is $37,366...WAY TO GO ST. ALBERT & SPRUCE GROVE!!!! Our goal this year is $150,000. All of the funds raised on The Salvation Army Kettles in St. Albert and Spruce Grove stay in the communities to help those who are in need. Corps Annual Golf Tournament

Here are some pictures of the St. Alberts Corps Annual Golf Tournament. Everyone had an awesome time at the Coyote Canyon Golf Course in St. Albert. We even had some first time golfers who did really well. After the Tournament everyone met back at the church for a delicious potluck supper and prize draw. Corps Rally Day Picnic a Success!!!

Members of The St. Albert Corps had an awesome day of fun and fellowship together as they shared in an afternoon of food, fun and games together at Cardiff Park. The afternoon started with a potluck meal, which, as always, was absolutely delicious. Then there were games for both young and old alike, as our Youth Pastor, Joe Ludlow, did an awesome job of organizing these games. There were piggy back races, sack races, a scavenger hunt, and loads of parachute games.

The whole purpose of our picnic was to "kick off", or as we refer to in The Salvation Army, "rally", everyone together to start another year of exciting ministry opportunities. Everyone left feeling refreshed and rallied...which was echoed by many people in attendance when they said, "we have to do this every year..." What a great way to start of another year of exciting, God-glorifying ministry!!!!!

The saying goes "Spring is in the Air". Well, let us rephrase that by saying "Fall is in the Air"...and with that comes the start-up of our Corps Programs. There is so much happening at the St. Albert Corps and Community Centre...here are some upcoming events:

Sunday, September 14th @ 1:30 p.m. ~ Corps Picnic @ Cardiff Park in Celebration of Rally Day. There will be games for the kids and the adults...so come along, bring a dish for our potluck meal and your lawnchair or picnic blanket.

Thursday, September 18th @ 6:30 p.m. ~ Pioneer Club Start-up. Through Pioneer Club, children earn badges through fun, hands-on activities. The Pioneer Program creates the perfect environment for developing healthy relationships - with peers, leaders, and ultimately, Jesus Christ. Weekly Bible study, meaningful Scripture memory, and fun life-skills activities make each meeting memorable and full of variety. Snack is provided. Cost is $40 per child and $1 each week. Come, join the fun, and bring your friends. We will be starting up again on Thursday, Sept 18, 2008. Pioneer Club will be every Thursday night starting at 6:30 pm for Grades 1-7.

Through Pioneer Club, children earn badges through fun, hands-on activities. The Pioneer Program creates the perfect environment for developing healthy relationships - with peers, leaders, and ultimately, Jesus Christ. Weekly Bible study, meaningful Scripture memory, and fun life-skills activities make each meeting memorable and full of variety. Snack is provided. Cost is $40 per child and $1 each week.

God's Big Backyard

This summer has been a blast. We had 86 children registered this year. The children got the opportunity to go to the fire station, chateau mission, and the spray park. They also enjoyed participating in bible lessons, a talent show, games, crafts, music, and hearing from Nick and Cooper (our puppets). The best was watching them participate in the service projects. They packed hampers for those in need, visited the elderly, colored teddy bears for sick children, and decorated a parachute for children in a refugee camp in Afghanistan. We also had a successful year end BBQ!

Thank you to all who helped this summer in any way and a special thank you to the wonderful staff. This was an awesome summer.

Welcome & Installation of Captains Jason and Gaye King

Our Pastors, Captains Jason and Gaye King, and their daughter Kianna!!

On Sunday, July 6th, Captains Jason and Gaye King were installed as the new pastors of our Church. The Installation Service was performed by Majors Fred and Wendy Waters of Divisional Headquarters. In the Installation Service the King's pledged their love, pastoral support, and passion for ministry to the St. Albert Congregation and Community, and the Congregation pledged the same to the King's. Jason & Gaye are very excited to be here to share in ministry and were warmly welcomed by the Congregation. Their daughter Kianna, a.k.a, "The Social Butterfly", is also very happy to be here as she made friends very quickly in our congregation.

It is hard to believe that the Marshall's are now into their final week here in St Albert. The movers have already been and gone, and all that is left is some final last minute things.

Be sure to come out to the Marshall's farewell dinner at the Church (on Friday June 27 @ 6:30pm) and to next Sunday's Worship Service (June 29 @ 11:am) where you will be able to say so long and farewell.

Monday morning Capt's Les & Tiffany will be heading off to their new appointment in Winnipeg MB, their son Adam will be heading off to Pine Lake Camp for the summer and their daughter Courtney will be staying behind to live in St Albert and will be working at Soul Sportz and then attending NAIT in the fall.

It is hard to believe that pastor transition day is just around the corner (officers must be in place by July 4).

The belongings for our new Pastors Jason & Gaye King was picked up yesterday in Hanover ON to make its way to St Albert.

Captains Les & Tiffany will have their belongings picked up Wednesday morning to head to Winnipeg.

We are definitely experiencing the winds of change before our very eyes.

The following is a letter from Major Lindsay Rowe, a Canadian serving in the Republic of South Africa:

Dear Family & Friends:

I'm sending this recent THQ bulletin to you regarding Zimbabwe. Please continue to remember us in your prayers as we continue to trust God for whatever the future holds for us.

We also solicit your prayers for refugees and foreign immigrants in South Africa. Recent outbreaks of violent attacks against foreigners in the townships surrounding Johannesburg and Cape Town have resulted in forty-five deaths and more than 30,000 displaced refugees being forced from their burning homes and brutally assaulted. We are very concerned about the future of these victims of xenophobia.

The Salvation Army is very busy providing food, clothing, accommodation and counselling. Many of our volunteers are themselves refugees and must be very careful. We are not targets of this xenophobia so are not personally at risk. It is a black on black phenomenon unfortunately and is the result of a combination of social issues that include but is not restricted to xenophobia, poverty, unemployment, and government mismanagement of the refugee problem.

Incoming refugees have little choice but to head to the informal settlements where they can erect a shack and live economically. Unfortunately the townships are already bulging with South Africans desperately trying to eke out an existence on a day to day basis. The influx of refugees is the proverbial "straw that broke the camel's back."

Please pray for us and our people as we minister to these dear people who came to South Africa to escape violence and poverty in their home land and are now headed back home bruised, bleeding, and broken in spirit. Pray that God will soften the hearts of those who are engineering the violence for their own benefit and pray that the general populace will come to their sense and refuse to be incited to join in the violence. Pray that they will recognize the image of God in these their brothers and sisters and stop the violence.

This Sunday will be a day of prayer for refugees and foreign immigrants in all churches in South Africa, please join us in prayer.
