Rainmaker Rodeo Parade

Once again the Annual Parade has come to a conclusion. I wouls like to thank all who participated in preparing and riding on this years float. Special thanks to Edmonton Temple band for their willingness to come march and play.

The parade was a tremendous success all except the last 100 yards when 2 of our young people tried to get off of the moving trailer. In so doing they fell and hurt themselves. Both kids went to hospital -one left with a cast and the other limped away.

All in a days work - never a dull moment in St Albert!

Immediately following the service there will be a BBQ luncheon for everyone in attendance which we be an opportunity to say farewell to both the Graves and the Van Duinens as they prepare for their new appointments in Ontario.

This week he will conclude with looking into the book of Nahum and its relevance for our lives today.

If you can, be sure to read Nahum 1:1-15 before getting to Church so that you will have a good idea of the textual foundation for the message entitled...

"God - Our Refuge"

See you Sunday at 11:00am

MAY LONG WEEKEND

It finally here - its the Victoria Day long weekend!

What is Victoria Day?

Queen Victoria was born on May 24th but Canadians celebrate Victoria Day on the Monday before May 25. People in England celebrate it in June. Victoria Day became a popular holiday in Ontario (it was Canada West back then) in 1845 and a national holiday in 1901. During the 1900s, it used to be called Empire Day and then it changed to Commonwealth Day. Now Canadians call it Victoria Day.

Who Was Queen Victoria?

Victoria, who was queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and empress of India, was born in 1819. She was only 18 when she took over the throne in 1837 after her uncle George IV died. She ruled until her death in 1901, then her son Edward the VII became the King of England.

Its HERE!!!!!!!!!! HAPPY MOTHERS DAY

Here is a tribute to all Mothers around the world.....

"I love you," - by Carl Sandburg
I love you,"said a great mother."
I love you for what you are
knowing so well what you are.
And I love you more yet, child,
deeper yet than ever, child,
for what you are going to be,
knowing so well you are going far,
knowing your great works are ahead,
ahead and beyond,
yonder and far over yet."

Mothers Day - is coming

CANDIDATES SUNDAY - MAY 6, 2007

This is a reminder that this coming Sunday we will be focusing on the call that God places upon our lives.

As we continue in our five week mini series on the minor prophets this week we will look into the book and life of Jonah and discover the call that God laid upon his heart and how God continues to call people today.

With that in mind, as Jon & Tracy have been called into full time ministry, we will be collecting a special offering to assist them toward their entry into the College for Officer Training this coming September.

During the service we will be inviting other people who feel called to full time ministry or called in others ways to express their calling this coming Sunday.

Don't miss out this Sunday, be sure to come, read the book of Jonah in advance and come prepared to celebrate the fact that God is still calling and that people are hearing, listening and responding.

ACCEPTED!!!!!

It is my pleasure to announce the newest candidates for Salvation Army Officership -Jon & Tracy Savage.

At the recommendation of our Church along with the endorsement of DHQ and now THQ the Savages will be entering the College for Officer training this September to begin their two year training program.

I now ask that you lift up Jon & Tracy, Kurtis and Kassandra in prayer asking God to continue to guide and direct them, to strengthen them and to give them discernment as they and there family follow the calling that God has placed before them.

Cradle of Hope!

Christ rose first; then when Christ comes back, all his people will become alive again.
1 Corinthians 15:23 TLB

And, as we envision the moment, we stand in awe.
I would like to read you a passage from Max Lucado's "When Christ Comes":
We stand in awe not just because of what we see, but because of what we know. We know that we, too, will die. We know that we, too, will be buried. Our lungs, like his, will empty. Our hands, like his, will stiffen. But the rising of his body and the rolling of the stone give birth to a mighty belief: “What we believe is this: If we get included in Christ’s sin-conquering death, we also get included in his life-saving resurrection. We know that when Jesus was raised from the dead it was a signal of the end of death-as-the-end. Never again will death have the last word. When Jesus died, he took sin down with him, but alive he brings God down to us” (Rom. 6:5–9 MSG).

Special Thanks

Yesterday approx 400 people from all over the country came to celebrate the life of Christene Murdock. Late for Bible Class
A little girl, dressed in her Sunday best, was running as fast as she could, trying not to be late for Bible class. As she ran she prayed, "Dear Lord, please don't let me be late! Dear Lord, please don't let me be late!"
While she was running and praying, she tripped on a curb and fell, getting her clothes dirty and tearing her dress. She got up, brushed herself off, and started running again. As she ran she once again began to pray, "Dear Lord, please don't let me be late...But please don't shove me either!"

The Sermon
A little girl became restless as the preacher's sermon dragged on and on. Finally, she leaned over to her mother and whispered, "Mommy, if we give him the money now, will he let us go?"

Instruction About Church
A Sunday school teacher asked the children just before she dismissed them to go to church, "And why is it necessary to be quiet in church?"
Annie replied, "Because people are sleeping."

Laugh of the Day!

Let it snow let it snow!

Oh the weather outside if frightful yet oh so delightful? Who said that anyhow? Obviously someone who grew up in a warmer climate.

Anyhow, yes it is snowing but I understand the weather is supposed to be improving in the next couple of days - YIPPPEEE!

Thumbs Up!

Today in church we were blessed to have our own Peter Van Duinen lead us in the service today. He preached on "Seeking the Lord" and used a clip from 50 First Dates to help us understand and guide us along on what he was preaching about. We sang songs like " Surrender, Blessed Be Your Name, As the Deer and The River is Here all of which brought us into wonderful worship with the Lord. Peter also prior to the service was slaving away over a hot stove to make the congregation homemade bread which we got to have a piece during the sermon and a nice cold glass of water.
He did an awesome job today! Way to go Peter!

Bring On The Nice Weather!

I don't know about you but i am really appreciating the wonderful springy weather that St.Albert is currently getting! +5, +6....NEVER LEAVE! I think i speak for all of us but i am sick and tired of this cold and snowy weather!

Don't miss out as we welcome another precious child to God's kingdom

This is a time for Katelyn's parents to publicly declare their intention to raise their child in such a way that she is given an opportunity to know God and to establish a personal relationship with Christ. It is a time for family and friends, and the church body at St.Albert Community Church, to assist Leeann and Ken Pilat (Katelyn's Parents) with this task.

“Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” (Matthew 19:14 NIV)

Spring is coming!!!

Believe it or not - spring has arrived! Today in the sunny south the boys of summer began to play baseball which thus marks the first day of spring.
Before long the butterflies will surface,
the spring meadows will flow, the buds will blossom and the grass will reveal itself once again.
This is true of course, unless you live in and around Toronto, evidently, spring has been postponed. Sorry guys!

Alpha Retreat

Don't forget this weekend is our Alpha Course Retreat at Providence Retreat Centre on Saturday.

See you there!

Thanks for the memories Ryan!

The Edmonton Oilers tried to reach terms on a contract extension with forward Ryan Smyth, but he wound up being dealt to Long Island in the most shocking trade at Tuesday's NHL trade deadline.

Smyth, the undisputed emotional sparkplug of the Oilers, was traded to the New York Islanders for a pair of coveted prospects in Robert Nilsson and Ryan O'Marra and a first-round draft pick.

Was this a good move? For the oilers? For Ryan Smyth? For both?

More News...

So tell me - what do you think of this?

Titanic director James Cameron and Canadian filmmaker Simcha Jacobovici say they aren't trying to undermine Christianity in their new documentary that claims the remains of Jesus, his wife, Mary Magdalene, and their child have been found.

Oscar-winner Cameron and Gemini-winner Jacobovici unveiled two limestone boxes they believe once contained the remains of Jesus and Mary Magdalene during a news conference Monday at the New York Public Library.

Cameron, best-known for producing the blockbuster movie Titanic, said the $4-million US documentary doesn't set out to undermine Christianity.

"It's very far from the case," said Cameron. "What this does is celebrate the real-life existence of … this man, who, 2,000 years ago, had a vision and communicated it to people."
The claim that the bones of Jesus have been found could challenge the Christian belief that Jesus died and was resurrected three days later.

Many Christians believe Jesus' body was kept at the site of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem's Old City. The burial site identified in the documentary is in a southern Jerusalem neighbourhood nowhere near the church.

Claims nonsense, says expert

Rev. Canon William Cliff, rector and chaplain at Huron University College at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ont., said he's "doubtful" about the claims in the documentary.
"The Christian faith has always believed that Jesus was resurrected, so there would be no bones," said Cliff, who also teaches theology at the Anglican Church of Canada-affiliated college.
The Israeli-born, Canadian-raised Jacobovici said the documentary is not trying to answer any questions, but is intended to "bring the story to the world and let the experts weigh in."
Jerusalem-based biblical expert Joe Zias called the documentary nonsense, saying those involved in the project have "no credibility whatsoever."

"It's an old story that's been recycled. The story first broke in 1996 by the BBC. It burst in a couple of days," Zias said.

A tomb such as the one discovered in 1980 would have held more than 200 ossuaries and there is no way to determine whether six of those boxes contained the remains of members of a single nuclear family, Zias said.

(source cbc news).

So what do you think?

In the news...Welcome home St. Alberts Mark!

It has been a long time since Edmonton fans cheered Mark Messier the way they did Tuesday night.

Messier, who celebrated five of his six career Stanley Cups with the Oilers before retiring in 2005, had his No. 11 raised to the rafters of Rexall Place in an emotional ceremony prior to Tuesday's game between the hometown Oilers and Phoenix Coyotes.

Mark Messier wipes away tears during Tuesday's tribute at Rexall Place. The 46-year-old Edmonton native is the sixth member of the Oilers so honoured, joining Al Hamilton (3), Paul Coffey (7), Jari Kurri (17), Grant Fuhr (31) and Wayne Gretzky (99), now head coach of the Coyotes. "One of the reasons that made it so special to play here is that I was born and raised here," Messier told the capacity crowd of 16,839 in attendance. Dressed in a vintage Oilers uniform, Messier skated a lap around the ice with the Stanley Cup to a tumultous standing ovation and was already in tears by the time he placed it on a table at centre ice.
"I want to thank each and every one of you for all of your support," Messier said. "This [franchise] is an institution in the world of sports."

Welcome Home Mark!

Hey!

Well It's been a long long time since i have last posted and i do apologize for that.

Thank you for everyone that came and participated on Sunday Afternoon for curling and then came to pizza hut for some food and prizes. Everyone had a lot of fun and us newbees got to get the hang of what curling was really and truly like. (Next time I think I will make sure to bring my parka and snow pants in the ice area)

So some updates on what's going on:
  • Tonight is ALPHA at the church at 7pm
  • Pioneers on Thursday night (6:30pm) - -> followed by band practice at 8pm
  • Floor Hockey on Friday Night
  • Young Adults Saturday Night (talk to Jon and Tracy for details)

AND REMEMBER....
Our "Missions or No Missions" Self Denail Campaign is off and running so make sure to save up during the week so we can hit our goal each week.

Prayers, Prayers, Prayers

Your prayers are greatly appreciated for all those who are sick within our congregation right now. God works in mysterious ways and he knows what is in store for each and everyone of us.

Hebrews 2:17, 18, "He had to be made like these brothers of His in every way, so that He might be merciful and faithful as their high priest before God, For since He Himself has passed through the test of suffering, He is able to help those who are meeting their test now."
- -
I know that God will comfort them and give them patience and tolerance for hope for the future.
Just to all those people right now that are sick or who has a loved one that is sick, just know that you have many many friends praying for you, and an awesome God looking over and out for you!

Give Praise To God

Do you know that praising God is the best thing to do first before anything else? Have you ever been in a situation that you feel all alone? Or have you encountered a difficult situation in your life and you don't know what to do, like losing your job or suffering the loss of someone very close to your heart? Consider the good times such as when you receive a raise from your boss or earn high marks at school? What do you usually do during these moments? Praising God makes every circumstance of our lives complete, essential, and eminently worthwhile.
...
Here are some scriptures that are about giving praise to God
...
"Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom"
Psalm 145:3
......
"I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth."
Psalm 34:1
.....
"Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name."
Hebrews 13:15
....
Praising God is awesome! We should be living and breathing ideas or ways of how we are going to be praising God that day. Why do we praise God? Because he is worthy of our praise. It is vitally important to live in an attitude of praise toward God.

Self- Denial!

Have you heard about this year's Self- Denial Campaign? It is based on the game show: Deal or No Deal. We will be hosting a game show at the beginning of each service for the next 8 weeks entitled: "Missions or No Missions"

Make sure you come prepared each week to give generously to help those in need in various countries.

Love Your Neighbor

Has something ever been on your mind and you just wanted to share it with everyone? Well today I was thinking specifically about the scripture:
......
" Love your neighbor as yourself" (Matthew 19:19)
....
God loves your neighbor enough to die for them. You are God's ambassador, representing God to your neighbor, for the purpose of demonstrating His love.
.....
???Did you know that eight times in the Bible we are told to love our neighbor. It happens to be one of the Bible's most repeated commands.???
....
Love without actions is DEAD...
What are you doing to show God's love to your neighbor today?

Stop Squeezing a Living Out of Life

Today we concluded our TV mini series with a sermon that addressed the drama in our lives. Captain Les reminded us that we should'nt turn to TV shows such as desperate housewives, 24, House, Grey's Anatomy etc. to hide from the stresses and pressures of life. Instead we need to face our sturggles head on with God's help. During the sermo Captain Les identified the need to obey God's promises. To find out more about the specific promises be sure to go to www.intouch.org and type in the search box "God's Promises"

- Love THE CHURCH!

Busy!

I hope everyone has had a tremendous holiday/vacation/break, but the time has come when the programs start beginning again and the busyness of our lives and homes start to fill the air once again. How exciting right? R-I-G-H-T!!! You bet it is!! Busy is what keeps people going.

Thought of the Day: Many of us struggle to bring God into the busyness of our lives. Our busy schedule can squeeze out our prayer time, and when we do pray, we may find it difficult to bring our activities to God as prayer topics. We might think that God can't possibly be interested in our work life, or in our housework, or our leisure time. Yet the God who is the Lord of all of our lives, is interested in everything we do.

Take Care Guys!

Some More....

1. I will put God first in all areas of my life. "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." (Exodus 20:3) I will not allow money, family, fame, or any material object to become more important to me than the God I serve.
2. I will not worship idols. "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me." (Exodus 20:4-5) I will not treat any statue as if it were God. Neither will I worship a picture of Jesus, but rather Jesus himself.
3. I will not use the Lord's name unless it brings him glory and honor. "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain." (Exodus 20:7) I will not say "Jesus Christ" when I am angry or "Oh My God" when I am in shock.
4. I will set Sundays apart as a special day. "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy." (Exodus 20:8) Just as God rested on the seventh day so will I.
5. I will treat my Father and Mother with respect. "Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee." (Exodus 20:12) I will obey my parents and give them honor.
6. I will not commit murder. "Thou shalt not kill." (Exodus 20:13) I will never take the life of another human being, remembering that God is the only one who gives life and has the right to take it away.
7. I will not cheat on my spouse by having an affair. "Thou shalt not commit adultery." (Exodus 20:14) I will view my marriage as a ministry and remain true to the one God has joined me together with in Holy Matrimony.
8. I will not take anything that belongs to someone else. "Thou shalt not steal." (Exodus 20:15. I will treat other people's property with respect and always ask first if I want to borrow something.
9. I will keep my tongue bridled and tell no lies. "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor." (Exodus 20:16) I will never spread false gossip about someone else or say anything that I don't know for a fact is true.
10. I will not harbor desire for the things other people have. "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbor's." (Exodus 20:17) I may like what other people have, but I will not let it consume me to the point that I feel I must have it.

It would benefit a Christian to memorize the above 10 commandments found in the 20th chapter of Exodus and turn them in to this years resolutions. Why not make a resolution you know God wants to be a priority in your life and learn more about his word at the same time.

Happy 2007!

Hey guys! HAPPY 2007

Sorry for the lack of posts lately but I think I am back up and ready to go now. How has everyone's christmas and new years been? I am sure EVERYONE is looking forward to the kids going back to school on the 8th so there will be some peace and quiet back in the house...am I right?

I was reading an article on the internet about the top ten new year's resolution: Maybe some of theses were yours?

1) Spend more time with friends and family
2) Fit in Fitness
3) Tame the Bulge
4) Quit Smoking
5) Enjoy life more
6) Quit drinking
7) Get out of debt
8) Learn something new
9) Get your life organized (whether it is organizing your basement to something as simple as organizing your fridge)

Did you know that fewer than 10% of people who set New Year's Resolutions actually achieve them? How can you ensure YOUR success? Try using the Top 10 Tips below.

1. Write Them Down. It's a fact: writing down your goals gives you a higher chance of success.
2. Commit. Move beyond the land of "good ideas" to promise yourself to show up for your goals.
3. Tell People. Let your biggest fans in on your new commitments and goals for the year.
4. Get Accountability. Even better than just letting others in on your "secret" dreams and goals-get some accountability. Meet for lunch once a month with a group that will ask you, "So, how's it going with your goal?" Get some support!
5. Make a Plan. Ensure success with a step-by-step plan. You'll find an easy plan to make your goal a reality.
6. Do a Goal Check-In. Before you decide on what you'll take on for the year, make certain you can answer, "YES!" to the following questions: "Am I the primary reason for setting this goal (vs. your mom, boyfriend, wife, boss, society)? Do I feel alive and energized by this goal? Is this goal in line with my life purpose or mission?"
7. Get Real! If you're contemplating putting a goal down that you always put down and never achieve, take a second look. How will this goal end DIFFERENTLY this year? Is this goal something you need to let go of? What purpose is it serving you? What's a good enough reason to finally achieve this goal?
8. Focus With Reminders. Once you've got your goals and plan in place, figure out ways to remind yourself.
9. Believe and Visualize. What will these goal do to you and your life in the future?

HAPPY NEW YEAR YOU GUYS!!
and remember to always keep God first and foremost in each and everyone's life! Without him, you can't achieve any of your goals for this coming year!!

Merry Christmas

Its the most wonderful time of the year!

How To Get Into The Christmas Spirit

Christmas is supposed to be a time of peace, love and goodwill to all. But with all the stress and commotion of the season, many of us end up feeling more like Mr. Scrooge than Santa Claus. Maybe your working overtime this month and Christmas is at the back of your mind and you have no christmas spirit at all or maybe you forget this in 12 days it is christmas time! Here are some ideas of how to get into that cheery holiday spirit!

STEP 1: Shop early. Nothing takes away the Christmas spirit like fighting for parking and struggling through crowds.

STEP 2: Wish people that you meet in stores and other casual environments a happy holiday. Say it with a smile.

STEP 3: Place money into the Salvation Army kettles

STEP 4: Do something nice for someone. Offer to baby-sit so a friend can do her Christmas shopping, take cookies to your neighbors, or shovel an elderly neighbor's walk.

STEP 5: Volunteer your time to a worthy holiday cause. Even if you are busy, you can spare an hour or two to help people less fortunate than yourself.

STEP 6: Organize a drive at work or in your neighborhood. Collect food and personal items and donate them to a local shelter for the homeless or for battered women.

STEP 7: Play Christmas music.

STEP 8: Watch Christmas movies. "Elf" , "Santa Clause" is a good one for reviving a flagging Christmas spirit, as is "How the Grinch Stole Christmas."

STEP 9: Read "A Christmas Carol"

STEP 10: Decorate your house for the holidays.

STEP 11: Don't spend more money than you have. Anxiety over after-Christmas bills can ruin your holiday.

This week...

Don't forget this week....

Monday - Kettles/Choir Practise
Tuesday - Kettles
Wednesday - Kettles/Chateau Mission Visit
Thursday - Kettles
