Long Weekend

Yes believe it or not the labour day long weekend has arrived. To some this is a depressing time of the year, to others, many are rejoicing. Not convinced - have you seen one of the Staples ads?

This ad might be the best marketing ploy of all time (it is right up there with the Coca Cola ad of the early 80's with Mean Joe Greene and the DQ ad a couple of years ago).

Check them out and you decide. Place your vote in the comment section.

Canada Day - July 1

Canada Day is an opportunity to gather in our communities, from coast to coast to coast, and to proudly celebrate all we have in common. It is an opportunity to celebrate our achievements, which were born in the audacious vision and shared values of our ancestors, and which are voiced in nearly all of the languages of the world through the contribution of new Canadians.

Canada Day is a time to celebrate the heritage passed down to us through the works of our authors, poets, artists and performers. It is a time to rejoice in the discoveries of our scientific researchers, in the success of our entrepreneurs, and to commemorate our history — a history in which each new chapter reveals itself to be more touching, more fascinating than the last.
As we look ahead, we have every reason to face the future with confidence and enthusiasm.

Let's celebrate Canada!

Its A GIRL!

The Salvation Army in St Albert has just grown again with the arrival of a new born baby!

Congratulations to Len & Katherine on the arrival of their baby girl. Her name is Grace and was born early Sunday morning and she weighed 7lbs 4oz's.

Mom, Dad, the boys and the baby are all doing well, in fact Dad is already sending pictures and video clips to all in cyberspace - stay tuned.

Mayors Walk/Run for Charity

Yes - today was the annual 3/5 K walk or 8 K run through St Albert.

I sit here writing this note only 2 hrs after completing the race in one piece. This year, Capt Les, Beth, Adam and Justin participated in the run and Capt Tiffany & Linda volunteered to help put the race on.

Once again, we thank this years sponsor Roy Financial and all of the volunteers and participants that made the walk/race a tremendous success. Last year 26 local charities recieved a total of $56000 and this year we hope to top that total.

Many thanks to those who sponsored our participants. Together we raised over $700.00 in pledges which will go toward purchasing new chairs for the Church sanctuary.

That's all for now - now its time to soak those sore and aching muscles.

See you tomorrow at Church - 11AM!

The previous 36 hrs - musings by Capt Les

Sunday afternoon flew to Toronto ON, drove to Jackson's Point and attended the funeral of his best friends step son Daryl Harney on Monday. Daryl was killed in a car accident while working in Northern BC.

WOW - what a funeral - huge attendance - lovely yet very emotional service. Daryl obviously touched the lives of many!

Tuesday morning left the Salvation Army's Jackson's Point Camp and stopped at Nobleton Lakes Golf & Country club to visit Capt Les' brother who is the golf pro.

From there headed to Hamilton ON to visit with family and friends.

Wednesday morning went trailer shopping with his Mom, had lunch with his grandfather Capt Fred Marshall (R) and then Capt Les' dad drove him back to the airport in Toronto.

Arrived at the airport to discover that the 7pm flight had been cancelled. Now departing on a 9pm flight.

Capt Les had the privelage to sit around the airport and surf the net and update the blog.

Really looking forward to getting home. Capt Les misses Capt Tiffany, Adam, Courtney and shelby.

What a trip - see you all soon!

Thanks Mom & Dad for everything - Bless you both!

Fathers Day

Don't forget everyone, this Sunday is Fathers day! Take some time and tell your Dad how much you appreciate him and make sure you bring him to Church.

Remember that after the service we will be having our annual Church picnic BBQ so that way you don't even have to take Dad out for lunch - simply stay for the BBQ - its for everyone!

See you there!

Church Picnic

This coming Sunday we will having our annual Church picnic/BBQ immediately following the morning service.

Feel free to bring deserts & salads & your favorite lawn chair, the Church will provide the Hot Dogs and Hamburgers and some games for the kids.

See you all there!

The Pursuit of Happyness

A two week mini sermon series!

Chris Gardner's life is falling apart. After a business deal goes bad, he feels that the only way he can make a good life for his family is if he changes careers. So despite all the odds, Gardner enters the chase for a lucrative job as a stockbroker at Dean-Whitter. The only problem is that the competitive internship required doesn't pay anything, and there is no guarantee of employment at its end. Evicted, abandoned, and nearly penniless, Gardner refuses to let go of his dream. The Pursuit of Happyness stands as a modern-day parable about perseverance and the value of family.

Be sure to come learn how this modern day parable can apply to us all!

See you Sunday at 11:am!

Its hard to believe that the Alpha course is quickly coming to a close once again. After today there is only one more class then followed by the final dinner on June 2oth.

If you missed out this time look forward to enrolling in the next course in October.

Womens Camp

At long last, this coming weekend is womens camp at Pine Lake. Be sure to be praying for all of the ladies who will be attending for them to experience God's presence and draw closer to Him.

Have a great time ladies!

Rainmaker Rodeo Parade

Once again the Annual Parade has come to a conclusion. I wouls like to thank all who participated in preparing and riding on this years float. Special thanks to Edmonton Temple band for their willingness to come march and play.

The parade was a tremendous success all except the last 100 yards when 2 of our young people tried to get off of the moving trailer. In so doing they fell and hurt themselves. Both kids went to hospital -one left with a cast and the other limped away.

All in a days work - never a dull moment in St Albert!

Special Guests

This coming Sunday Majors Lee & Deborah Graves will be at the Church with Major Lee bringing forth the message.

Immediately following the service there will be a BBQ luncheon for everyone in attendance which we be an opportunity to say farewell to both the Graves and the Van Duinens as they prepare for their new appointments in Ontario.

Make sure that you plan on attending this Sunday at 11:am

MAY LONG WEEKEND

It finally here - its the Victoria Day long weekend!

What is Victoria Day?

Queen Victoria was born on May 24th but Canadians celebrate Victoria Day on the Monday before May 25. People in England celebrate it in June. Victoria Day became a popular holiday in Ontario (it was Canada West back then) in 1845 and a national holiday in 1901. During the 1900s, it used to be called Empire Day and then it changed to Commonwealth Day. Now Canadians call it Victoria Day.

Who Was Queen Victoria?

Victoria, who was queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and empress of India, was born in 1819. She was only 18 when she took over the throne in 1837 after her uncle George IV died. She ruled until her death in 1901, then her son Edward the VII became the King of England.

Its HERE!!!!!!!!!! HAPPY MOTHERS DAY

Here is a tribute to all Mothers around the world.....

"I love you," - by Carl Sandburg
I love you,"said a great mother."
I love you for what you are
knowing so well what you are.
And I love you more yet, child,
deeper yet than ever, child,
for what you are going to be,
knowing so well you are going far,
knowing your great works are ahead,
ahead and beyond,
yonder and far over yet."

Mothers Day - is coming

Last chance everyone!

CANDIDATES SUNDAY - MAY 6, 2007

This is a reminder that this coming Sunday we will be focusing on the call that God places upon our lives.

As we continue in our five week mini series on the minor prophets this week we will look into the book and life of Jonah and discover the call that God laid upon his heart and how God continues to call people today.

With that in mind, as Jon & Tracy have been called into full time ministry, we will be collecting a special offering to assist them toward their entry into the College for Officer Training this coming September.

During the service we will be inviting other people who feel called to full time ministry or called in others ways to express their calling this coming Sunday.

Don't miss out this Sunday, be sure to come, read the book of Jonah in advance and come prepared to celebrate the fact that God is still calling and that people are hearing, listening and responding.

ACCEPTED!!!!!

It is my pleasure to announce the newest candidates for Salvation Army Officership -Jon & Tracy Savage.

At the recommendation of our Church along with the endorsement of DHQ and now THQ the Savages will be entering the College for Officer training this September to begin their two year training program.

I now ask that you lift up Jon & Tracy, Kurtis and Kassandra in prayer asking God to continue to guide and direct them, to strengthen them and to give them discernment as they and there family follow the calling that God has placed before them.

Mayor's Walk For Charity

June 23 we will be participating in the annual Mayor's walk. All of your sponsored funds raised by Salvation Army participants will go directly to The Salvation Army in St Albert.

Cradle of Hope!

Christ rose first; then when Christ comes back, all his people will become alive again.
1 Corinthians 15:23 TLB

And, as we envision the moment, we stand in awe.
I would like to read you a passage from Max Lucado's "When Christ Comes":
We stand in awe not just because of what we see, but because of what we know. We know that we, too, will die. We know that we, too, will be buried. Our lungs, like his, will empty. Our hands, like his, will stiffen. But the rising of his body and the rolling of the stone give birth to a mighty belief: “What we believe is this: If we get included in Christ’s sin-conquering death, we also get included in his life-saving resurrection. We know that when Jesus was raised from the dead it was a signal of the end of death-as-the-end. Never again will death have the last word. When Jesus died, he took sin down with him, but alive he brings God down to us” (Rom. 6:5–9 MSG).

Special Thanks

Yesterday approx 400 people from all over the country came to celebrate the life of Christene Murdock. Then to top it all off, some fan came up with this nasty picture!

No taste - at all! Oh well there are still three Canadian teams left in the playoffs - Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa! Since there is no way that we can cheer for the Flames or the Senators, we here in St Albert say........

Go Canucks Go!!!

Up from the grave He arose!

Late for Bible Class
A little girl, dressed in her Sunday best, was running as fast as she could, trying not to be late for Bible class. As she ran she prayed, "Dear Lord, please don't let me be late! Dear Lord, please don't let me be late!"
While she was running and praying, she tripped on a curb and fell, getting her clothes dirty and tearing her dress. She got up, brushed herself off, and started running again. As she ran she once again began to pray, "Dear Lord, please don't let me be late...But please don't shove me either!"

The Sermon
A little girl became restless as the preacher's sermon dragged on and on. Finally, she leaned over to her mother and whispered, "Mommy, if we give him the money now, will he let us go?"

Instruction About Church
A Sunday school teacher asked the children just before she dismissed them to go to church, "And why is it necessary to be quiet in church?"
Annie replied, "Because people are sleeping."

Laugh of the Day!

Anyhow, yes it is snowing but I understand the weather is supposed to be improving in the next couple of days - YIPPPEEE!

Thumbs Up!

Today in church we were blessed to have our own Peter Van Duinen lead us in the service today. He preached on "Seeking the Lord" and used a clip from 50 First Dates to help us understand and guide us along on what he was preaching about. We sang songs like " Surrender, Blessed Be Your Name, As the Deer and The River is Here all of which brought us into wonderful worship with the Lord. Peter also prior to the service was slaving away over a hot stove to make the congregation homemade bread which we got to have a piece during the sermon and a nice cold glass of water.
He did an awesome job today! Way to go Peter!

Bring On The Nice Weather!

"Katelyn Olivia Pilat"

Don't miss out as we welcome another precious child to God's kingdom

This is a time for Katelyn's parents to publicly declare their intention to raise their child in such a way that she is given an opportunity to know God and to establish a personal relationship with Christ. It is a time for family and friends, and the church body at St.Albert Community Church, to assist Leeann and Ken Pilat (Katelyn's Parents) with this task.

“Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” (Matthew 19:14 NIV)

Spring is coming!!!

Believe it or not - spring has arrived! Today in the sunny south the boys of summer began to play baseball which thus marks the first day of spring.
Before long the butterflies will surface,
the spring meadows will flow, the buds will blossom and the grass will reveal itself once again.
This is true of course, unless you live in and around Toronto, evidently, spring has been postponed. Sorry guys!
